Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe

Having decided not to get himself killed, Wade Wilson, the Merc with a Mouth, is going to murderize the Marvel Universe instead!

For those with a longing for the darker Deadpool we haven't seen much of in awhile, this What If? tale--coming in August from Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic--might just scratch that itch. In fact, this looks like it's gonna be the darkest take on Deadpool yet!

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe writer Bunn says the book will present "a version of Deadpool unlike anything fans have seen before. He's still Deadpool. He's still funny. But he's being seen through a dark, unsettling filter." And although this story takes place in an alternate reality, Bunn says he "wanted a catalyst for Deadpool's killing spree that could happen in the main book. At the beginning of this story, we're dealing with 'our' Deadpool. His perceptions have always been a little off-center, but now his world view is crashing down around him. When the switch gets flipped (so to speak), Deadpool takes a very dark turn. From that point, he's got a very specific goal in mind, and he's not going to stop for anything."

Yes, this looks like we're gonna see a side of Wade Wilson that's even more messed up than usual; Bunn continues, "Deadpool probably sees himself as the hero in this story, but he's not. After the first few pages of the book, I don't think anyone will see him as a good guy. There is a character that plays the role of the 'hero' in that he's trying to stop Deadpool. A character who has some history with Deadpool. He's not a nice guy, either, but even he is shocked by the carnage Deadpool is wreaking."

I'm intrigued to know who this is. The return of T-Ray'd be nice.

Bunn says the 4-issue mini-series will be "dark, but the kind of horror that'll make you laugh uncomfortably at all the blood and violence."

You can check out the full interview, where Bunn and Deadpool editor Jordan D. White talk the August-shipping weekly mini-series with Comic Book Resources here!

Meanwhile, with Graham Pearce, the artist on my Deadpool-parodying Wayne Winston, having recently completed the latest (Star Wars-riffing) issue of his Sgt. Mike Battle, we're starting to gear up for Wayne's debut in an upcoming Abnormals special, and you can check out the first full page of art from that here:

And if you didn't catch the first sneak peaks at Wayne and crew, you'll find them at the end of my Deadpool #54 Review. :)
