Big things coming for Cabra Cini and friends
Cabra's tagline is, 'Take Jessica Jones, Deadpool and Doom Patrol and blend - and you get supernatural gun-for-hire, Cabra Cini.' So I'm obviously a fan of those characters. Two of them are making a comeback in 2026, and as well as Jessica Jones entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the forthcoming season of Daredevil Reborn, I'm excited for:
Written by Sam Humphries and illustrated by Geraldo Borges, Alias: Red Band #1 (of 5) - coming March 18th.
From Marvel's solicitation: "A series of grisly murders in Hell’s Kitchen pulls Jessica Jones into a mystery more sinister than she could’ve ever imagined. As the wife of Mayor Luke Cage, she’ll have to tread carefully as she forms a dangerous alliance with Typhoid Mary to track down the killer. But as she delves deeper into Hell’s Kitchen’s dark underbelly, the evidence she finds presents more questions than answers…"
Fresh off his smash-hit Deadpool/Batman comics, the Merc with a Mouth is getting a new ongoing series written by Benjamin Percy and illustrated by Geoff Shaw. "DANGEROUS. UNHINGED. DEADLY. Deadpool is a man on the brink, and that means the jobs are deadlier, the stakes are higher, and the humor is darker than ever before," reads Marvel's official description for Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1.
"But Wade Wilson isn't laughing. A dark memory haunts Deadpool, as a mysterious client leads him down a troubling path. This way lies redemption? No, something far worse. Wade can never be forgiven for what he's done..."
Coming out February 11th, you can check out a Preview here!:

Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman #0 Deluxe live on Kickstarter
No longer willing to let her boyfriend/pimp treat her like dirt, Cabra Cini got lethal payback with the help of voodoo magik - and liked it. Voodoo became her new addiction and Cabra has cleaned up her act and forged a deadly new vocation…
Cabra Cini routinely utilizes her magik to access a dimension called The Infinite - 'Limbo's crazy cousin, locked away in the attic' - which for those who trespass upon it can serve as a dimensional gateway between where they are and wherever they want to go. A boon for Cabra in finding her 'hits'. But the ruler of The Infinite, The Rook, doesn't like Cabra abusing his dimension this way - and throws everything he can at her, physically and mentally, to 'dissuade' her from doing so.
NOW: Drug-dealer Jacob Trencher has been robbed, shot and left for dead - but using his occult magik he has survived: and hired Cabra Cini to find the person responsible and take care of things... which is going to put Cabra on a collision course with 'It girl' turned Superheroine Geek-Girl, as that person is a member of Geek-Girl's new Super-Team!
Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman #0 Deluxe is a Double-Sized issue, featuring Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman #0 - including Cabra Cini's origin story, for the first time with Color by Chunlin Zhao; and all of Cabra's appearances and related sub-plots from Geek-Girl #5-#9 - leading to the Cabra Cini Voodoo: Junkie Hitwoman Mini-Series and forthcoming Cabra Cini/Geek-Girl Crossover.
Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman #0 Deluxe is available on Kickstarter - along with all other issues of Cabra Cini - here!

Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman Preview
I've been working for some time with a number of artists including Bruno Letizia, R.D. Ricci, Jorge Oliveira and Fernando Melek to bring to life the bizarre, horrific world of Cabra Cini (pronounced 'Carbraa Cheenee')... and issue #1 of her Mature Readers mini-series will be hitting late-2017. Here's a Preview!
(right-click on images and 'open in new tab' to enlarge)
Using her own bastardized version of voodoo magik, Cabra now lives her life as a supernatural hitwoman-for-hire. One of the tricks she's learned is utilizing the dimension know as The Infinity - 'Limbo's crazy cousin, locked away in the attic' - as a shortcut between where she is and wherever she needs to go. The ruler of the dimension, The Rook, doesn't appreciate Cabra doing so and attacks her physically and psychologically whenever she abuses his dimension this way...
But things hit much closer to home for Cabra when her neighborhood in Detroit gets targeted by 'White Out', an insane Neo-Nazi - who may or may not be a ghost...
Cabra has cleaned up her act, got a new life, friends, and a would-be lover - but thanks to White Out, all of that's now on the line...
You can get the Free Digital Cabra comic, Dark New Year - which leads into the Mini-Series - and also features more Previews material - here! And join the Cabra Facebook Group here for news on issue #1's release!
“This is something new altogether. I give it my recommendation. Strongly.” -Michael Wearden, Mike's Comic Blog.

Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman
[UPDATED 3/19/17]
It's been a long time in the making - with a bunch of artists including Bruno Letizia, R.D. Ricci, Fernando Melek and Jorge Oliveira bringing their different flavors to the worlds and dimensions Cabra Cini inhabits; the mini-series is now nearing completion (I'm looking for one final artist to illustrate a scene that takes place in Ms. Cini's Mind-Scape) - and will debut in late-2017!
Art by Fernando Melek
For those new to Cabra Cini (pronounced 'Carbraa Cheenee): No longer willing to let her boyfriend/pimp treat her like dirt, Cabra got lethal payback with the help of voodoo magik - and liked it. Voodoo became her new addiction and Cabra has cleaned up her act and forged a deadly new vocation…
You can get in on the ground floor with the Free Cabra Cini: Dark New Year Digital Comic here (suggested for Mature Readers). This features Cabra's acclaimed debut story (originally presented in H!M Comics' IF-X) and previews the Mini-Series.
Among other things lined up for the forthcoming mini, we'll get to know Cabra at street level; witness her burgeoning relationship with f*ck-buddy Geoff; she'll be getting a 'pet' in the form of Spanish werewolf El Hombre Lobo; will take on twisted Neo-Nazi White Out (last seen in The Almighties); and she will return to bizarre dimension The Infinity ("Limbo's scary cousin, locked away in the attic"), following her traumatic outing there in Dark New Year.
Below are some sketches and previews of the above, and you'll find more to come at this blog - and plenty more at the Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman Facebook Group!...

Comics 2016
2016 is set to be my biggest year for comics yet, with the Geek-Girl mini-series slated for release.
For those not familiar with Ruby Kaye...
When 'Little Miss Popular' Ruby Kaye lands a pair of super-tech glasses (invented by brainiac college geek Trevor Goldstein) in a game of Strip Poker, she's granted flight, super-strength, and - due to a flaw in the glasses' programming - super-klutziness!
And this is just the beginning of the changes the glasses will wreak on Ruby...
You can get the Geek-Girl Free Digital Preview Comic here!
I'm also excited for Joe Kelly returning to the guy he helped shape into the character I most want to work on - Deadpool - in Spider-Man/Deadpool; and you can check out a Preview of that, and more comics coming in 2016, at my new Comics 2016 Facebook Page.
Excelsior!

Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman returns!
Here's the (uncensored version of) the Press Release:
At a pivotal moment in her life, former crack whore Cabra found a new addiction--voodoo--and from there she crafted a new vocation--developing her own bastardized version of the dark art to carry out hits!
Cabra is back in H!M Comics’ IF-X vol.3 #11--in which a friend’s Halloween fancy dress party is meant to be a night off for Ms. Cini--but things prove to be as eventful and bizarre as any of her assignments!
(Right-click on images and Open in New Tab to enlarge)
Written by Sam Johnson (Geek-Girl, Gold Town, The Almighties) and illustrated by Dan Lauer (Myth, Slam Dunk Kings, Zombie Highway), Cabra’s lead feature in the comic reveals a new side to her. Johnson fills us in, “Anyone familiar with Cabra Cini knows she’s a badass; she used to be in the unfortunate position of being her now-ex pimp’s abused girlfriend, and having gotten out of that ‘hole’ and found her vocation in life, she’s a much stronger woman--to the point that she’s feared by any who know her--but beneath her badass exterior, she is still a human being.”
Johnson continues, “No one has been able to get close to Cabra since she became the ‘Voodoo Lady’; though she does have physical ‘relations’ (as a former President might say) with her neighbor Geoff…
“Only, Geoff’s fallen for her. He’s been wanting to take things to the next level--for them to have a real relationship--he’s had this idea in his head for awhile, and after a couple of drinks at the party, Geoff’s going to make his move and try and break through the ‘wall’ Cabra’s put up. However--he may not like what he finds on the other side of it.”
Suggested for mature readers, Cabra Cini in ‘Bad Voodoo’ is the lead feature of IF-X vol.3 #11, Out Now, $2.99, b&w, 32 pages. The comic also features ‘Brody and Lisa’, a supernatural romance strip from Kelci Crawford; and ‘Recovery Unit’, an offbeat vampire tale from Patrick McEvoy & David Beyer, Jr.
The book is now SOLD OUT in the US and internationally, but if you're in the UK you can get it, signed, by me direct from this site using this button:
And if you didn’t catch Cabra’s debut, 'Voodoo Trespass', you can get the new edition FREE from Drive-Thru Comics by clicking on this page:

Cabra Cini promos round-up

I've spent the last three months promoting Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman's color debut in Visionary Comics' Digital Visions #4, the free download introduction to Cabra, ahead of more stuff that'll be coming for her... It got great reviews, and you can find some of the quotes I pulled from them below.

“Cabra Cini makes her debut with a bang. This is a perfect set up story.” James Ferguson, HorrorTalk.com
“The pacing’s fast, the art is moving, the surprises many. I applaud Cabra Cini for breaking the limits that female characters can play in comics.” Wayne Hall, SciFi Pulse.
“Smart, effective, and highly entertaining. This is a rising talent in the comics industry.” Steven Leitman, Reading with a Flight Ring.
“This is a great intro. There is a ton of promise here for a dark and rich storyline.” Tommy Young, The Devil’s Demons.
“This is something new altogether. I give it my recommendation. Strongly. You can and SHOULD go read this book.” Michael Wearden, Mike’s Comic Blog.
I've got big plans for Cabra Cini, and if you'd like News & Previews, a good place to join is the Cabra Facebook Group. Cabra has a Mini-Series in the works, the majority of which is completed; but before that she's coming to the pages of Geek-Girl - where she will play a major role - in Geek-Girl #7, coming September 23, 2020!

Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman in Digital Visions #4 - Press Release:
“A hard hitting story with incredible artwork. I’m already a junkie and quite addicted to this character and can’t wait for more.” Bill Gladman, Comic Related.
“A strong yet flawed female lead with a touch of mysticism and bad-assness, Cabra Cini is a character to watch out for; her debut raises eyebrows and pulses!” Avril Brown, Comics Waiting Room.
New up-and-coming writer Sam Johnson (Geek-Girl, Gold Town) and artist Bruno Letizia (CLiNT Mag, Interferenza) introduce us to a bizarre new world of horror!
“Cabra Cini is a character close to my heart, whom I have big plans for,” says Sam. “There’s a one-shot already in the can, illustrated by Fernando Melek & Gaston Zubeldia, but this story--‘Voodoo Trespass’--is where Cabra makes her debut--and we’re thrown headlong into her twisted world.”
A world where Cabra, an ex-crack whore, has cleaned up her act and, for horrific reasons--revealed in Digital Visions #4--become a hitwoman. “But not just any hitwoman,” Sam adds; “Voodoo is a weapon Cabra employs--along with her array of blades and guns--and she’s developed her own bastardized version of the art: which she uses to dramatic effect in carrying out her hits.
“One of the ways she uses it is to access a dimension known as ‘The Infinity’--Limbo’s ‘crazy cousin--locked away in the attic’--which can serve as a dimensional gateway between where you are and wherever you want to go. Though, with what the ruler of The Infinity throws at its trespassers, the journey can come at a monstrously high cost, as Cabra--hired by bereaved parents to take out the guy who killed their daughter,‘playing vampire’--is about to learn…”
Digital Visions #4 also features:
Deity: The Darkness and the Light #0 by Karl Altstaetter & Robert Napton. An interdimensional war wages for the very fate of reality. Our only hope? A sixteen-year-old Earth girl. Can she survive the dangers of 2027
Plus: Gangland Avalon by A. David Lewis, Michael Angelo Lee & Chuck Bordell. Sit in on a tense meeting with the Cavalieres and the
Digital Visions #4 published by Visionary Comics. 30 pages. Suggested for Mature Readers. Available to download FREE soon! Join the Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman Facebook Group here to get the link when it's out!
