Almighties Origins and Reloaded now at over 1,000 downloads!

As a huge fan of 'The World's Strangest Superheroes,' the Doom Patrol, this line brought a smile to my face, and I was also happy to learn today that the new Doom Patrol will be making their DC New 52 debut in tomorrow's Justice League #30 (with their chief Niles Caulder now apparently wheelchair-free and resembling a young Noel Edmonds); something I've been hanging out for since they teased it in Justice League #24. I really enjoyed writer Geoff Johns' previous take on the team in Teen Titans, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to this new incarnation.

[UPDATED 5/21/14:] Well it turns out the panel below was it for the new DP in Justice League #30, so we're gonna have to wait a bit longer to see more of them. In the meantime, there's this.

Grant Morrison and Richard Case's out-there work on Doom Patrol, back in the day, remains one of my favorite comic runs ever, and is the biggest inspiration for my work; a particular influence on Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman, but also to be found in Geek-Girl and The Almighties.

Mike Gagnon and I are currently working on an Almighties mini-series and the “Johnson and Gagnon are having a lot of fun making this comic and it really shows” quote from Blog the Blummin’ Doors Off's review of The Almighties #1 is certainly still the case. I'm really enjoying working on the comedic adventures of former downtrodden housewife with anger issues, MS. F; mercenary with psychotic tendencies, Mason; cocky British punk/werewolf, Nite Fang; armored egomaniac Maxi-Tron; and kebab shop owner Stefanos; as well as their new teammate-to-be.

Still in its very early stages, I can't give much away about the mini, but you can find a little of it teased at The Almighties Facebook Group. In the meantime, we're also finishing putting things together for the team's next outing, The Almighties #0, which The Almighties Recharged Reloaded Reduxed previews; and I was pleased to hear that and Origins have passed the 1,000 downloads mark. There's another Deadpool 'flashback' issue coming on March 26th, and this one sees the Merc with a Mouth going back to the 1950's to save a young Nick Fury from the menace of TIME-TRAVELING HITLER!

The Almighties woefully omitted from CBR's fav. Barack Obama comic appearances!...

...or: 'Hangover Monday'*...

Stumbling upon Comic Book Resources' latest poll, 'What's your favorite Barack Obama comic book appearance?', I nearly choked on my chicken! Fully expecting The Big B's guest-star-ation in my own The Almighties #1 to be firmly in the running, I eagerly scanned the list...

Thunderbolts #128-129... Yeah, that was a good one, where then-T-Bolts-controller Norman Osborn tricked a sceptical Barack into believing he and the Green Goblin where two separate people, despite Normie having already been publicly revealed as Spidey's nemesis...

Amazing Spider-Man #583... a cheesy one in which Spidey saves the Prez but determines Obama would have been 'just fine' anyway, what with him being so gosh-darned-aces, 'an all... Not a great one, but high profile, and maybe comic book fan Obama's first foray into the world of four-color fictional fun... so yeah, that'll be in.

Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #1... Skyman #1... The Other Dead #1...?!? There's... there's no Almighties! Just what are these pompous, pinheaded poindexters trying to pull here?!? I don''t think 'The Other Dead #1' is even a real comic - !?!

The Big B played an integral role in The Almighties #1 - so integral that revealing it would be a massive spoiler for the book! And I'm sure Barack himself would (if he'd read it) agree that - never mind not even being on the list - this was far and away his finest funnybook hour!

This is clearly Comic Book Resources working their corporate asses off to keep the little indy publishers down! Well good luck with that, hosers, 'cos since the release of our free digital comic Almighties Origins, the Almighties fanbase has been growing and growing over at its Facebook Group, and I guarantee that if I ran a poll there, asking what peeps' fav. Comic Book Obama appearance is, The Almighties #1 would come out on top! How can I guarantee it?

Because it'd be the only god-damned option.
